The Michelle McGann Fund is a donor-advised fund managed by the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties, Florida. I have chosen the Community Foundation to manage this fund on my behalf. A community foundation is a tax-exempt public charity created by and for the people in a local area. It enables people with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support the issues they care about - immediately or through their will or estate plan. The United States has more than 700 community foundations serving citizens in urban and rural communities in all 50 states. Collectively, community foundations hold more than $31 billion in assets and make local grants of approximately $2.6 billion annually.
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 13. While this has challenged me every day since, I have been fortunate to receive the support of a loving family, and first class medical care. The mission of The Michelle McGann Fund is to further the fine efforts of organizations like the Diabetes Research Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In addition, the Michelle McGann Fund will be dedicated to serving underprivileged children with diabetes. Funds will be distributed to help children diagnosed with this terrible disease. Together, you and I can bring some of the advantages I have enjoyed to other kids with diabetes. This help might mean the purchase of insulin pump therapy equipment, or assistance in the development of physical education programs to encourage children to establish a healthy, active lifestyle right from the onset of their life. Undoubtedly, it's these very things that have led me to accomplish the things I love.
