After a great week in my debut at the Golf Channel in New Jersey, I caught a 1 hour flight to Manchester, NH. My cousin Kelly picked me up at 12am, and I spent Sunday evening at her home in Bedford., NH. After sleeping in, we drove the quick hour to the Maine Seacoast, to Ogunquit, where I am getting married next weekend!
If you haven’t been to the Maine Seacoast, you are really missing out.
Ogunquit (pronounced /oʊˈɡʌŋkwɨt/ oh-GUN-kwit) is a town in York County. As of the 2000 census its population was 1,226. The popularity of the town as a summer resort is epitomized by its motto, “Beautiful Place by the Sea.”
Ogunquit, which meant “coastal lagoon” to native Abenaki Indians, was first a village within Wells, which was settled in 1641.
However, during the summer, the population grows to probably 30,000. It is still pretty quiet here, and the weather is fantastic, so we are really enjoying ourselves leading up to the big day!
Tonight we headed to Barnacle Billy’s for dinner. Billy Tower is an institution himself, and has been friends with my future in-laws for over 50 years. If you want a lobster, head to Billy’s! My future mother in law Joan stood guard recently while Mikhail Gorbachev and George H.W. Bush dined at Billy’s (Billy and 41 are really great friends). I would have loved to been a fly on that table!
I hope your Memorial Day weekend will be as fun and memorable as mine!
XO
