I departed Thursday for Southern California with my brother JC. While the tournament is next week, our itinerary over the weekend included a visit to the Taylor Made Offices, and the “Compound”, which is their own private practice facility. The folks there were great, and tweaked my clubs so that I will be 110% ready for next week! Joining us was my mentor Dave Stockton, who will be working with me over the next couple of days to get ready for the tournament. We also saw at Taylor Made my pal Dina Ammaccapane who was getting her clubs looked at!
Dave, JC, and I then drove over to The Bridges, a beautiful country club in Rancho Sante Fe. Meeting us there, was my old junior golf pal Phil Mickelson. We shared a few laughs, watched each other putt a bit, and then got focused down to business. If you look closely, look at Phil’s feet…yes he was practicing in his flippy floppys!! I have new Geox golf shoes which are really helping my feet, but I was jealous!
I know both Dave and Phil from my junior golf days almost 23 years ago. Phil and I are the same age, as is Dave Stockton Jr. I met Dave Sr. at a number of events over the years, and have become close to he and his wife Cathy. Without a doubt, Dave has been one of the biggest influences in my career.
The trip out to Southern Cal was a breeze. JC and I we booked on a non-stop JetBlue flight, and we really enjoyed it. Between having to make no connections, and the personal TV’s, it was a quick flight. And to top it off, the Long Beach airport is so user friendly; we were in and out in a flash!
I am getting excited about the tournament next week. Its been 8 months or so since my last one, and I am ready to go. I hope you have a terrific weekend!
