After a great presentation of Grease at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach last Wednesday, I headed to Orlando to watch the final regular PGA Tour event, the Children’s Miracle Network Tournament. As a guest of the Golf Channel, I was going to have the opportunity to shuttle between both the tournament being held at one of the Disney courses, and the Golf Channel studios, which are based in Orlando.
The entire week was awesome! While I have played for 21 years on the LPGA tour, I really never understood how much preparation and hard work goes into a 3 or 4 hour broadcast. The folks at the Golf Channel are true professionals, and its a pleasure to be around people who love their work so much. I had the opportunity to “try my stuff” live on Golf Central at 12:30 and 6:30 on Saturday. It was a terrific experience…the entire crew was great. A special thanks to Vince Cellini, Kraig Kann, Steve Sands, and Mark Lye for making me feel at home in the studio.
The rest of the week I was out at the course following Jerry Foltz and Billy Ray Brown as they did their thing on the course. Man, they make it look easy. My old friends Rich Lerner and Frank Nobilo gave me the scoop about how the booth works, and again, it was refreshing to see people have so much fun at work. Hard work, but the quality shows!

Congrats to Justin Leonard, George McNeil, and most of all Stephen Ames who played so well this week. If you watched the tournament, you will know all 3 tied and were in a playoff for the win. In the middle of the first playoff hole, Stephen came over and gave me a hug and said he thought I would be great on TV. George piped in that he had seen me the night before and added a few encouraging words! All of this from two guys who were in the middle of a fight to end the season with a win! Classy guys to say the least!
Thanks to the countless people at the Golf Channel who made me feel so at home this week. I had a great time, and I appreciate you showing me “how the other half lives”.
