I have been resting and relaxing for the 2nd half of the summer due to my foot injury, so it was timely that I headed to Sea Island, GA for a weekend on the beach (and 18 holes too). We arrived at the Cloister late Friday night and were ushered to a fantastic room at the Beach Club!
If you haven’t been to the Cloister, its fantastic. It’s one of those special places that you must visit at least once in your life, even if for only one night!

On Saturday, I got 18 holes in at the Seaside Course. Todd Anderson, the Director of Instruction, is an old friend from his days at the Breakers. Unfortunately, he was off in Atlanta watching the Alabama game and we didn’t get a chance to hook up. Todd would have been proud of my round at his course…15 fairways, 17 GIR and +1. Not bad for a course with some tricky greens!
On Sunday we spent the entire day at the beach, and I made some real headway eliminating my golfer tan on my feet! The weather was sooo perfect. Slight breeze, warm, and not a cloud in the sky. Very dangerous though…I got a bit burnt and wasn’t expecting it!
On Sunday, we joined my old friends the Myers Family for breakfast on Sea Island. Randy Myers is the head of the fitness programs at Sea Island, and is one of the best golf fitness experts in the world. I have known Randy and his wife Pam, and their kids, since Randy was at PGA National, where I used to practice.
Now I am back in the grind at home. My foot is doing better, but I have been warned to stay off it a bit longer. I don’t know if this means I will be able to play in any more tournaments this year. I am taking it day by day!
I hope you had a great Labor Day!

Ps. A belated congratulations to Annika and Mike on the arrival of baby Ava! From this McGann to the McGee Family – Best Wishes!
