I tee’d off at 1:10 today, and it just wasn’t meant to be. I visited the Guthrie Medical Group yesterday, and they gave me an x-ray which showed a small bone spur in my foot. While I rested it yesterday, and got a good nights sleep, after a bit of practice, and 9 holes today, I just couldn’t walk anymore.
Withdrawing from a tournament is something I don’t take lightly. I think I have only done it once before in 21 years of professional golf. But today was just too painful, and I was concerned that I might injure myself in trying to cope with the sore foot.
I plan on heading home tomorrow, and will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in both feet and athletes. I am hoping that surgery will not be required. However, I know that with my diabetes, I need to be particularly careful of infection and problems with my feet.
Other than that, my week is going great. I am staying with John and Catie Olmstead again this year, and am enjoying their kids Aidan, Riley, and Logan. They are very nice and alot of fun, and I couldn’t have nicer hosts.
Prior to the tournament I held another meet and greet/clinic for local kids with diabetes. All of the Western New York stations have been broadcasting the afternoon, and you can watch a part of it here:

Also, WENY ran a story too. Watch it here:

Many thanks to all of the Corning fans for your support. Having toured the world for 21 years as a member of the LPGA, Corning was always one of my favorite stops!
